For some reason, I keep seeing people who talk as if the PSP is the most useless POS handheld ever to be created. They call it a paperweight, because thats its best use.
HAH!
I purchased my PSP when the handheld first came out. It first showed its signs of its age almost 2 years after. This was because I lost the soft case thing that came with the system. It kept the system completely protected at all times it was not in use. Another thing, the PSP is a multimedia device, unlike most handheld game systems. I have about half a gig of music, 100mb of video, and too, about 100mb of pictures. With an exchangable battery and memory card, I was able to upgrade myself without having to buy a whole new system (4gig, stronger battery (increased battery time by about 5 hours)).
Then theres the gameplay. Godlike. If you bought the system and have not modded it, I could see why you hate it. However, I easily cracked, and with the help of the infamous Dark_Alex's homebrew, set myself off to have the ultimate gaming machine. Sega Gamegear NES, SNES, Gameboy & Gameboy advance emulators. I have about a gig of emulator ROMs - all backups of games I bought myself of course ;) . Beyond that endless void of gameplay, I can turn PSP UMDs into ISO files so the game can be played directly off the memory card (faster too!). This means I can, for instance, buy a multipalyer game, put the ISO on my memory card, and then hand the game disk to someone who has a psp, modded or not, and play multiplayer on the fly. I have FF tactics for psp(and tactics advance in one of the emulators) and FF crisis core, and power stone on my drive, all those emulators and music and videos and pictures and I still have 500MB to spare.
Not enough? I can also put PS1 Games onto my PSP. Those who are walkthrough-whroes could also add a walkthrough to the game by replacing the position for the software manual. I've racked up 150 hours alone beating FF7 again on my psp.
This system can do it all when it comes to portable gaming needs. Anyone who believes otherwise is an ignorant shit who needs to be beaten to death by a plastic spoon. 'Nuff Siad.
